It is hard to believe that fall is here and I am back at school! It was a busy and exciting summer for 4star and me. I was sad to see it come to an end as I love having more time to spend with him. It can be hard to juggle school and homework when I just really want to be at the barn all day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a fun time at the Riga Meadows Combined Test in May and the Kent Horse Trials in June, 4star and I started training for the Youth Dressage Festival. This takes place at HITS in Saugerties, NY and I get to participate not only as an individual, but also as a team member. There are three parts, a written exam, an equitation class and a dressage test. In preparation, in addition to working with my trainer Lillian Becker, I participated in a clinic with Eric Horgan at The Southlands Foundation in Rhinebeck, NY and worked again with Adam Gershberg. I was very proud of our accomplishments in dressage, as we placed 4th in Training Level in my age group. My teammates also did well so overall it was a great weekend. Although it\u2019s a lot of hard work boarding away from home, and it can be stressful, I love the camaraderie and excitement that comes with being in a new place with my my teammates and our horses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the Youth Dressage Festival was over, we took some time to rest and have fun together. We enjoyed bareback days and taking trail rides. At the end of the rest period we began focusing on our dressage and jumping again. I was anxious to get back to competing and in the beginning of August we competed in the Millbrook Horse Trials. This was a dream of mine, and a new challenge, as it was a three-day event. Four Star and I had an amazing time- just being there was exciting. I wish I could say I had my best show ever but unfortunately that wasn\u2019t the case. I was disappointed in myself that my dressage test was not stronger but it was consistent with where I usually score. Cross Country was much more technically difficult than any other course I have been on and there was one jump in particular that I was worried about. I got into my head too much and instead of steering straight at the jump, I worried he might try to run out (and he always goes out to the right) so I steered him to the left. I made an error because it was too much and he ran out. Unfortunately because of that we incurred our first cross-country penalty. I was so disappointed! However, on the positive side, I was much more aware of our xc time and we came in very close to the optimum time. This is something we had been working on. Stadium went well and we had a clear round which was also a personal goal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the middle of August 4star got a bout of cellulitis. We battled that and we were lucky enough to bring him back just in time for the Town Hill Horse Trials. We had a strong showing and even though 4star was tired that day we ended in 4th place in the Beginner Novice Division. Shortly after Town Hill, 4star abscessed after stepping on the clip of a sprung shoe, so we have had to withdraw from our last two events: Larkin Hill and Kent School Horse Trials. He has had to be on stall rest, which he does not enjoy, so I tried to go almost every day to graze and groom him and just spend time with him. I have been worried about 4star and very disappointed about how the end of our show season turned out. Luckily now the abscess is under control and we have slowly started back to work. I am hoping that in November he will be ready to attend a two day clinic with Eric Horgan at Larkin Hill. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
